Dr Roger Bailey was a graduate of Oak Bay High School in Victoria BC in 1971. He was Class Valedictorian and winner of a special scholarship to attend any University in British Columbia of his choice. However, Roger’s choice was to leave the continent and go to the U.K. where he attended Merchant Taylor’s School, Great Crosby, near Liverpool, England where he qualified to enter The London Hospital Medical College Dental School, University of London.
Roger graduated in 1978 with a Batchelor of Dental Surgery. He then returned to Canada where he worked for three years as a Resident in the Department of Oral Surgery and Hospital Dentistry and at the Cancer Control Agency of BC in the Maxwell Evans Clinic at the Vancouver General Hospital. At Vancouver General, he worked with a team managing patients with cancers of the head & neck.
Not being allowed to open a private practice in Canada after qualifying in London Dr, Bailey went from being on staff back to being a student at UBC as there was no reciprocity with any foreign graduates other than the US in the late 1970’s. After 3 further years of study at UBC, he graduated in 1984 with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine and was president of his graduating class.
Roger moved back to Victoria where he founded and built Canwest Dental Centre which he sold in 1992 when he founded and built Hillside Dental Centre where he continues to practice today.
Dr Bailey has Awards of Merit and Certificates of Appreciation for his contributions to dentistry from the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. He has served as scientific coordinator and President of the Victoria and District Dental Society, he has worked as an examiner for the National Dental Examining Board of Canada and served many years on the Board of the College of Dental Surgeons of BC and on many of their various committees.
